In Memoriam

Frederick William Jones

Put forth by Frederick W. Jones and cosigners--

--to the administration of Norwell High-school, Norwell, MA, 1961.

With now famous Jones persistence (obstinance?) Fred refused to placate school authorities by simply shaving off his beard in high-school. Instead, he organized a following, took a stand, and... kept a small memory of his beard (Grammy was more insistent than the school administration).

About thirty years later, his youngest son, Joe, would nearly duplicate the events (in complete ignorance of the family precedent, of course). His college basketball coach eventually backed down, and Joe got to keep his beard, trimmed "nice and neat." Times change, but slowly!
